Black-crowned Night-Heron ( Nycticorax nycticorax )

The silhouette is short and trapue, of the size of a hen. The red eyes, its white womb, its grey wings, the back and the top of the black head. The young are brown with the yellow eyes. Black-crowned Night-Heron Migrant, it returns to Africa from September - October. They nest in France mainly in the southwest, the Camargue and the surroundings, the lake of big place (next to Nantes), Valleys of the Loire, Allier and the Saône.

Habitat  :The day, it remains hidden in the thick undergrowth or the reeds. In the twilight it goes out of the hiding place to get back to the zones of peaches, ditches, roselières, swamps in the little deep waters and in dense vegetation.
Food  :Small fishes, frogs, insects, mollusks, rodents.
Size  :22.852 inch (58-65 cm) Weight  : 600-800 g Wing span : 35.46 inch (90-100 cm)
